A few days ago before Miss 13 officially became a teenager, the girls and I dressed up in pretty frocks and walked across the pink carpet into The Langham, Sydney for a Right Royal High Tea.
Miss 13 had invited two friends and Miss 19 was there on official photography duties. It is exciting to get dressed up in your Sunday Best for a trip into the city to a posh hotel.
I swear on occasions like these, our posture is better and the girls are all so well behaved you’d think they were being tested. Being served by immaculately groomed waiters with immaculate manners helps obviously.
The girls choose their tea, I choose champagne and the very impressive tiffin service arrives. Everyone’s eyes widen.
I mentioned this was a royal occasion. The selection of delightful bite-size delights served up, both grown-up and kiddie versions, is inspired apparently by Will and Kate’s favourites.
The kids get peanut butter & jelly sandwiches (really?) and fairy bread cut in the shape of a crown, raison and plain scones with strawberry jam and divinely wicked thick clotted cream.
The top level selection of pastries and cakes includes crown shaped cookies, royal vanilla cupcakes (with sprinkles), raspberry jelly cups, frangipani tarts and royal marshmallow rings.
My selection includes cucumber sandwiches, smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches (crusts cut off), a delicious looking chicken and leek pie (which one of the girls pinched), scones, miniature banoffee pie, chocolate brownie, cheesecake and fruit tart.
We waddle out a couple of hours later for a Kodak moment on the pink carpet before heading home to sleep it off.
What a treat.
